Artist Claire Vassort Creates Banners for City of Trenton

Rising Fawn, GA — Ms. Claire Vassort of Rising Fawn, GA was selected by the Trenton Art Council to create a series of 10 banners to be displayed around the Jenkins Park area of Trenton. An 11th banner is at The ArtBox Gallery where she displays her colorful, painted silk wall hangings and light sculptures.

Ms. Vassort, an accomplished hang glider pilot, chose to name the series, “Eyes to the Sky,” and wanted the project to bring together the various communities in which she participates. As she explains it, “I chose the pursuit of happiness and freedom as the themes of the series as these are central in the American culture. I also tried to capture the main elements of Trenton’s identity. These are described through three symbols that are relevant to the area and our natural surroundings: the bird, the branch and the sun. These symbols are combined to represent ideas that seem strong and dominant in our community.”

Originally from Chateaudun, France, Ms. Vassort brings a unique world-view to her adopted home. After living in different countries and other parts of the US, she settled on Lookout Mountain and built a charming home for herself in the New Salem Community. Self-taught in the art of silk painting, Claire started experimenting with the medium at age 16. Her silk frames and inks have traveled with her worldwide. Her work has been influenced by her strong interest in flying, her love of nature and her spiritual search. Her paintings (wall hangings, lamps, scarves) tie them all together.

With the banner series, the residents and visitors of Trenton can look to the sky and see gentle imagery representing this unique community.
